ACM Mill vs. Jet Mill

Jet mills, unlike ACM mills, incorporate a grinding area at the bottom of the machine. The classification zone can be seen at the top, which is where the materials fed will flow directly in.

These jet mills function by abruptly accelerating gas using a nozzle that is directed to a specific central focal point. Then, a series of nozzles are utilized to deliver the materials to the grinding zone for operation.

Air classifiers work by separating the materials using air, conveying materials that do not pass to the mill for them to be cut up, sliced, and finally ground.

The primary purpose of the “air classifier” in these mills is for the distinction and the identification of which particles and materials would already be fit to the requirement and the need of the process.

Do note, though, that we’re talking about the “air classifier,” which is just one (1) part or component of an air classifier mill or an ACM machine. We aren’t talking about the entire machine, just to be clear.

Air Classifying Mill (ACM Mill) Working Principle

Air classifying mills or ACM mills operate on the working principle of impact grinding, along with particle-to-particle attrition.

Due to the fact that the materials are greatly broken down in the mills or chambers, it can then easily be concluded that the size reduction of the materials and particles are subjected through impact grinding.

The mesh sizes and dimensions that ACM mills can produce would depend entirely on how the manufacturing body created it.

To tell you honestly, it’ll be hard to determine the mesh sizes of what ACM mills can produce. But, on average, they’re able to produce somewhere about 10 to 150 µm (micrometers).

However, you’ll easily be able to find machines that are capable of producing up to 250 and 300 µm!
